Continuity Editing

Continuity Editing :
a system of cutting to maintain continuous and narrative action. It relies upon matching screen direction, position, and temporal relations from shot to shot to give spatial and temporal unity between shots. Just so you know I didn't make it up, here is the Wikipedia entry on Continuity Editing

Video is made in three places - on paper, in the camera and on the editing screen.
Editing Terminology and Definitions

Comments:
A good start to editing terms.Good editing can make a good film better, or a bad film watchable.

If you envison how your final edit might look, this will help you plan all the work before you get to editing.Remember,.. you can't edit the shots you never got.

So shoot more closeups, inserts, reverse shots, reaction shots, etc.

This section could use some more links...anyone know some good examples for each type of shot?
