[tip of the day] "Creating continuity between shots is critical. The slightest error between shots will draw attention away from your content to the flaws in the video. Being able to color-match in real time gives instant gratification and saves countless hours of rendering. "

Premiere Pro Vs Final Cut Pro

There is an ongoing debate around Adobe Premiere Pro (PC) Versus FinalCut Pro (Mac).
Usenet BBS Debate
News Article
At MATC/Vicom our legacy system is PC with Premeire. A lot of the critics of Premiere are familiar with the older versions of Premiere. Premiere Pro is industiral strength and getting better. On the other hand, in the industry, you'll find about 60-70% using FCP and only 10-20% on APP. another 20% using AVID or other systems. (Estimates are SWAG only - could be way off) In any case, you should be familiar with the issues and get experience on FPC if you are able.

Film History Part1: Galileo Sunspot Drawings

In 1612 Galileo made a series or sunspot drawings that have become (I believe) the first known 3D animation. With this information Galileo helped develop his hypothesis that the sun was a globe (not a disk) and that the planets revolved around it, not around the earth. Thus drawing the ire of the church. Upon showing him the instruments of torture, Galileo agreed to stop publishing his theory. The Galileo Susnpot Drawings

Film & Video Lighting

Jesse Martin submitted an interesting story on flourescent lighting for video. Before we got to that, I thought I should find some info to share on basic lighting for video. Here's a good starter:
video lighting basics... definitions and a basic 3-point lighting tutorial that everyone should read.

And another: Film & Video Lighting for Low-Budgets (That's us, for sure!)

And now Jesse's contribution on flourescent lighting for video. Don't try this without reading the article first. Flourescents are notorious for giving your video a green cast.
