Devils Day 22

Friday, July 29th, 2005

NE wind all day. No bugs or visitors (almost)

More blueberries, blueberry pancakes, blueberries with granola and yogurt. Blueberry upside-down cake and blueberry pie. We are wondering if we’ll turn purple. I have avoided picking blueberries on the trail to leave them for visitors, but we only had 3 visitors today. Very exciting ones though. A couple and the woman’s 10 year old son. The guy said they had boat trouble but we think that was a ruse to get his girlfriend up in the tower where he pulled out a ring and proposed to her. We had been tipped off so Diane had stepped away behind the lens while I went and got my camera telephoto lens and crouched in the brush in the field. It was apparent that she said yes when they started smooching. I documented the whole thing and will send them the photos. When they got back to the house we congratulated them with chocolates and what else? Blueberries, of course! They headed back down the trail, both very happy and with a memorable experience on Devil’s Island.

Diane and I finished our day with S’mores on the West landing at sunset.
