Devil's Day 2

Saturday, July 9th, 2005

Quiet start, heavy flies.  No wind, no waves, partly cloudy.  Visitors started at 10:30 and kept coming in a steady stream.  22 visitors by 1:30 pm including a Mr. Tews celebrating his 89th birthday.  Devil's Island Sea Caves, Shot1He was moving slow but made it to the top!  As of 5 pm, I had made 12 trips up the stairs.  I closed shop and went for a kayak to the sea caves that rim the N. end of the island.  Truly amazing!  Went for a swim to cool off and as I came out of the water, I met a lone camper for my 13th trip up the tower.  Very busy first day.

Note: As an island volunteer, our first duty of the day is to report the current weather conditions during "morning island roundup" at 8:10 each day.  No sleeping late for my weeks on the island!  The second responsibility is to greet visitors and offer them a tour of historic buildings, particularly the lighhouse, 96 steps to the top.
