Devils Day 10

Devil's Island North Coast Sunday, July 17th, 2005

Spent the day cleaning for my lovely wife's arrival but now seems for naught. 3-4 foot waves are predicted for Monday and I thought I heard a radio transmission canceling boat transport.Devils Island Sea Caves 3 After hearing the forecast, I hiked to the S. Landing to let campers know. They had already left so I left a note in the bear-box for the next group. Only two tours today. A group of 6 from Minocqua and my lone camper. A warm wind was blowing pretty hard from the south by the end of the day. I did some mowing and at 6 pm the thermometer said 97 degrees. I went for a swim to cool off. It was pretty calm so I took the kayak out to the sea caves. While I was out, waves picked up from 1 to 2 feet. 10 to 20 knot wind did not deter flies in the least. Thunderstorms came in at about 1 am. Usually I sleep thru such things butDevils island storm clouds I woke up and sat out on the porch. About ΒΌ inch of rain.

Note: The photo of the thunderstorm was taken at about 1 am. One of the great perks of being out on the lake is being able to see storm systems moving from as far as 30 miles away. Another perk of Devil's Island are the beautiful sandstone formations just feet from my front door!
