Devils Day 15

Devil's Island LensA very busy and interesting day.  It was the day for Margot to leave.  Using the park service radio, we checked with the cruise service to find out where they would be picking her up.  So we had to put her stuff in the cart and head for the S. Landing to meet the water taxi.  I went half way and came back to greet visitors.  From 11 am to 6:30 pm we had a steady stream of visitors, 35 in all.  Some campers from France were impressed that the lens was from Paris.  Guests of the Bensen’s (from Rocky Island) came for a tour while Mr and Mrs Bensen stayed on the boat.  Had an interesting conversation with them.  Mr Bensen verified that his grandfather was the one chosen by local fishermen to represent them in their presentation of a box of lake Devil's Island Sunset through the treestrout to President Coolidge in 1928.  He told us it was a Jergensen who bought up the land on S. Twin and forced all the fishermen to move across the channel to Rocky Island.  We had some very interested (and interesting) kayakers who knew the Bensens’s sons, one of whom is a well-respected dog-sled racer.  Very nice sunset.  Diane and I bushwhacked to NW shore to get rocks and sunset when I realized I had no “film” (CF card) in my camera.  Oh well, that’s another sunset that (almost) got away.
