Devils Day 11
Monday, July 18th.
Much to my pleasant surprise, my sweetheart arrived this morning on the Grebe. The east landing was relatively calm. I could hear waves crashing on the west side. Diane also brought a guest, her college roommate and long-time friend Margot Brand. Margot has been traveling to Bayfield for the lighthouse festivals over the years and has always been interested in staying at a lighthouse. Due to the rough weather we thought we’d have no visitors but were mistaken. 2 boaters came up from the S. landing. They are the same couple who assisted Mike in 2000 when a clueless boater required a helicopter rescue. The woman stayed with the boater’s kids while the husband watched over the boats. Later we had a visit from a lone kayaker out on a day trip. She was leery about going back in 3-4 foot waves so I told her she was welcome to camp. I didn’t think our campers would come, but 4 Chicago-Russian gentlemen came over from bear and were obliging to share the site. Waves on W. landing were crashing and spouting 20-25 feet in the air. It was very exciting to watch. The first heavy seas since my arrival.
