Devils Day 8

Friday, July 15th, 2005.Devils Island Tramway Trail

Overcast late in day so I could not view moonrise. The east landing was a bit rough but still managed 6 tours and 15 visitors. Walked to S. landing. 2 kayak campers and a father, son and dog in a powerboat were at the dock for an overnight. All very nice folks. The boater was playing his radio rather loudly and I discussed the wilderness experience and that his radio might disturb the kayakers and he understood immediately. I bushwhacked around behind the campsite looking for trails up the southeast ridge but found nothing. I returned to the house, cleaned the local outhouse and then climbed tower with supper to watch sunset. Palak Paneer and cauliflower for supper.

Devils Island Tramway Engine HouseSome pink clouds but not outstanding. Thunderclouds and thunder to the southeast on mainland.

Note: I took these photos on a walk along the "Tramway Trail". It is a trip through time on the Devil's Island Railway. The brownstone building at the end of the line was made, reportedly, from sandstone quarried from Devil's Island in about 1901. The building housed a steam engine attached to a winch that pulled a tram loaded with supplies up to the top of the bluff. The tramway runs from the bluff to the lighthouse and fog signal building, a total distance of about a quarter mile.
